How do I prevent downtime with a domain transfer?

You should plan how you want to handle the DNS settings for the domain you are going to transfer. If you are planning to use our DNS/Hosting, and the domain currently has hosting or email, you can pre-configure the DNS for the domain in our nameservers.

When you transfer a domain, as soon as the transfer has started, it will not be possible to change the DNS pointers for the domain until the transfer has been completed.

If you have not ordered the transfer and would like to pre-configure the DNS, go to Profile > Add External Domain to add the domain to your account. Switch to make the added domain the current domain you are managing, and then go to DNS > Custom DNS Zone Editor to edit the domain's zone file. The interface will prompt you to first load a zone into the editor. Choose the zone that most closely matches what you are setting up. If you're not sure, choose the R4L Standard Zone.

Once the transfer has been completed, go to DNS > Change Nameservers and click the Reset DNS button to activate the DNS zone you've setup.
