How do I Confirm a domain transfer?

Domain transfers are no longer confirmed by an email that used to be sent to the administrative contact for the domain. The reason for this is many registrars now obfuscate the contact details in their Whois records, making it not possible for other registrars to look up the contact details for the domain being transferred.
