Configuring my iPhone 4 for email
- We recommend using IMAP instead of POP for accessing your incoming email. Pop configurations will often delete mail from the server, making it unavailable to other devices or computers you would use to access your email. That means your iPhone, computer, all devices you use to get email should be set with IMAP and not POP.
- Important note: In the description below, we use you@yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com as your email address and domain name. You need to substitute of course your real email address and domain name.
- Press to select "Settings" from your SpringBoard.
- Press to select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" from the "Settings" menu.
- Select "Add Account" from the "Mail" menu.
- Select "Other".
- Select "Add Mail Account" from the "Mail" menu
- Select "IMAP" and enter your name in the "Name" field, your full email address (you@yourdomain.com) in the "Address" field and a description for the account in the "Description" field.
- Scroll down and input the settings for your Incoming Mail Server. Enter "mail.yourdomain.com" or your server name (ahsX.R4L.com) where X is a number in the "Host Name" field, replacing "yourdomain.com" with your own domain name. Enter your full email address in the "User Name" field and your password in the "Password" field.
- Scroll down and input the settings for the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). Enter "smtp.yourdomain.com" or your server name (ahsX.R4L.com) where X is a number in the "Host Name" field, replacing "yourdomain.com" with your own domain name. Enter your full email address in the "User Name" field and your password in the "Password" field. Press the "Save" button in the top right hand side of the screen.
- You will then see a screen saying "Mail" is "ON". Press "Save" in the top right hand side of the screen.
- This will then add your mail account and it will be listed under "Accounts". Press the account name "you@yourdomain.com" to configure further settings.
- Click the "Advanced" options
- Ensure that the Outgoing Server is set to "Server Port" 587 and "Use SSL" is OFF in the "Advanced" options.
- Ensure that the Incoming Server is set to "Server Port" 143, and "Use SSL" is OFF in the "Advanced" options.
